A FARRIER is a specialist in equine hoof care. This unique trade includes the trimming and balancing of horses' hooves and the placing of shoes on the horses' hooves, if necessary. A farrier combines some blacksmith skills along with some veterinarian skills to care for the horse's feet.
NOTE: In order for the learning and training process to be more effective when taking our courses, we ask that our students have a good sense of horsemanship background. Your physical ability plays a very important role on learning this trade. When you are working with these unpredictably large animals on a daily basis, we need for you feel comfortable around them.
Student applicants accepted into FARRIER U should expect to receive a "Study Guide" packet, along with their Acceptance Letter, prior to their course start date. We encourage you to review this packet prior to attending FARRIER U. This study guide is to help prepare students to be familiar with commonly used farrier terms and their definitions, the horse's anatomy and parts of the hoof from different angles. Students will receive additional educational learning and training material, along with taking written quizzes, throughout the duration of the course to prepare you for your final exams.
