4 WEEK COURSE  -  $ 5500.00   (Professional Farrier Course)

Our most popular course is designed for anyone interested on becoming a professional farrier by trade.  Students receive hands-on educational training of farrier skills and techniques needed, along with the business and customer relations portion, in order to have a successful and professional farrier career.  Our 4 week course is equivalent to most 8, 10 and 12 week courses offered by other farrier schools.  We understand that it can be difficult to stay away from home for a long period of time and for that, our courses are extremely accelerated.  We also keep each course student count to a maximum of no more than two students at a time.  Courses are setup this way in order for students to obtain as much hands-on training as they can possibly handle.  The "Farrier Tool Package" is included in the 4 week course.

Our in-depth accelerated courses are kept small for students to receive as much "hands-on training" as can be handled by each student.  We will move at your pace so if a student has some experience, we will work at your level and not hold you back.  Students will work on horses on and off school premises - students should plan to commute to different barns daily...giving them a variety of different types of horses to work on as Emmet conducts and guides them while learning proper farrier skills and techniques.  "Our students are not left standing around waiting for other students to finish working on a horse".  Emmet prefers to see his students working hard and getting their hands dirty.

2 WEEK COURSE  -  $  3500.00   (Introductory Course)

This course offers basic trimming and balance of the hoof.  Get the basic knowledge of shoeing a horse and learn proper hoof care.  Learn the anatomy of the lower leg and hoof and how to evaluate a horse properly.  This course is best described as an "introductory course" for a potential professional farrier.  This course is also recommended for horse owners, or barn help, who have interest in the casual maintenance of their own personal horses.  You will need two (2) hoof knives (one left hand and one right hand) and one pair of hoof nippers to start this course.  If you are not able to obtain these tools before you attend your course, please advise us in advance so that you may purchase them once you arrive.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN OUR 4 WEEK COURSE:

Learn to read an x-ray of the hoof...

How to pin-point an abscess.....

NOTE:  In order for the training process to be more effective when taking our courses, we ask that our students have a good sense of horsemanship background.  Your physical ability plays a very important role on learning this trade.  When you are working with these unpredictably large animals on a daily basis, we need for you to feel comfortable around them.

STUDENTS that attend Farrier U will receive a "Study Guide" packet prior to attending.  This is a student review prior to attending the first day of your course.  This study guide is to help prepare the student with commonly used farrier terms and their definitions, the horse's anatomy and parts of the hoof from different angles.  Students will receive this packet once the completed application and deposit is submitted to our office.  Students will obtain additional studying material once they arrive and is theirs to keep.  Once the 4-week course is completed and passed, each student has the option of putting his/her contact information on our "List of Farriers" listed on our website by completing a form provided.  This list was designed to help are students get their names out there while getting started....this is also for horseowners to locate a good "qualified farrier" in their area.

"Natural Hoof Angle...so important!"
